Guitar carving prices vary, but generally run around $1000 (USD). This includes up to 8 hours of design time and complete layout and carving. Certain costs are additional, such as disassembly, re-assembly, finish stripping, re-finishing, airbrushing, pick guard engraving, peg head carving and inlay work. Add to this the cost of the acquired guitar or components where appropriate. An instrument built from scratch usually adds about $1000 to the cost. A 50% deposit is required before work begins. Balance is due upon completion and before shipping. Most guitars take 3 to 5 weeks to complete.
I carve each guitar one at a time and they are one of a kind. Each is unique - I don't make copies.
Most of my customers send me the guitar they want me to carve. But, if you'd prefer, I'll find a guitar for you. I can do just the body for replacement of your original, if you like. Or build you one from scratch using select components from quality suppliers.
I'll work with you on a design to please you. Once we have decided on the design elements, I prepare a sketch for your review and approval. After I start the actual carving, I'll display the progress on a special web page for you to watch as it unfolds. Once a design is agreed upon and carving begins, any changes in design are subject to a price increase.
Please email me if you'd like to discuss your own custom carved guitar. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks, Doug
